I'm a believer in changing things, shaking them up, moving them around. That way, maybe...just maybe, the pieces will shake into place just out of sheer perseverance and luck.
That was me for a LONG time.
That was me for a LONG time.
Is this you? Because it, awkwardly and fantastic, was me (still is most of the time).
A little about me. I’ve had a background in doing very weird and different jobs. I went to college on a softball scholarship, HATED it. I had spent most of my childhood becoming an athlete only to realize that I loathed every second of it at that competitive level. Lost and confused, I came back home (very ashamed of myself), went to school full time, had a full time bar tending gig, and a marketing job making the dough. Like a lot of dough.
I was trying to fill my plate so full that I didn’t have to work on what was really going on.

This went on for about a year.
6:00am Wake Up
7:00am Work
3:00pm Leave Marketing Job
3:15-4:45 Homework
5:00pm to 3:00am Bartend
5 days a week.
I had the house, the car, the bank account, the jewelry, the boyfriend, the pencil skirts, and even the freaking doilies.
One day out of the not-so-blue, I found my boyfriend in our bed with another lady (a young hostess with a huge nose, thank you very much) both high out of their minds on drugs. I cracked. That was it. I just couldn't anymore...

I left the next day. I dropped the job, the house, the car, the money, the boyfriend. And, sick to my stomach, I called a tall ship that I had seen only once. I told them I would do anything and that I was a great carpenter (lied through my teeth), and here I was.
They started me at $100 a week. Which was a %2000 pay cut. I didn't care, at the time, I had to get away from Will and the life that I completely made for myself. The life everyone's supposed to be into, right?

This boat.
It was the richest choice I’d ever made in my life.
I know what it’s like to need something different, a creative outlet, autonomy, or a side hustle that helps you and your family get by juuuust a bit easier. That’s why I’m making this blog. If you’re looking for a sign and wanted something else out of life. This is it. Maybe it’s audiobooks so you can spend more time with your son and daughter. Whatever it is. Here’s some info about how I’m doing what I absolutely adore. I started this blog to be about audiobooks, but I think it’s more than that. If you let other people dictate what you dream, your life will be filled with the desires of others. And. That. Blows.
In this blog, I’ll have how-to’s on audiobooks because I know stuff about that. Product posts. How to simplify your life. How to do adventurous things on a budget. How to budget (I learned that the hard way). Hell, I might even do a workout blog or two if I'm feeling spry. Tons of tips and tricks, coping mechanisms and machinations. Also, feel free to ask for a topic anytime, anywhere :)
Over and Out,
Kai
